Applications and Material Properties of PTFE Rubber Seals

PTFE is plastic material with high chemical resistance, low friction, electrical and thermal insulation. PTFE material can work in the temperature range of -73°C to 204°C. Its mechanical properties are usually increased by adding some fillers such as fiber glass, carbon fiber. And it has very excellent thermoelectric insulation properties and a low friction coefficient.

PTFE rubber seals are made of PTFE bonded with rubber material. Depanding on the application, the rubber material can be EPDM,FKM,HNBR and so on.

Combining the properties of PTFE and rubber materials, the PTFE rubber products can performance with characteristics such as :

  • Good chemical resistance
  • Low friction
  • Heat resistance
  • Good compresion set

PTFE Rubber Seal Applications and Properties

PTFE rubber seals are used in applications requiring robust sealing performance in harsh environments.

In automotive industry:

PTFE rubber seals are used in fuel systems, where they need to withstand the degrading effects of fuels, oils, and extreme temperatures.

These seals are also used in coolant water valves for dynamic sealing. In this condition, PTFE material provides the less friction during rotation and EPDM rubber can gatantee the sealing function.

In chemical processing industry:

PTFE rubber seals effectively prevent leaks in pipelines, pumps, and valves exposed to highly reactive or corrosive chemicals.

In medical industry:

These seals ensure biocompatibility and chemical inertness, making them suitable for pharmaceutical processes and laboratory equipment.

PTFE Lubricant-Coated Rubber Applications and Properties

PTFE has a high melting point, high melt viscosity, and is very sensitive to shear in the amorphous state, easily causing melt rupture. Therefore, injection molding cannot be used.

Considering the difficulties to produce PTFE parts, there are also PTFE-lubricated rubber products where PTFE are coated onto rubber surface.

PTFE lubricant-coated rubber products, provide a layer of PTFE lubricant on rubber components, such as O-rings, gaskets to enhance their performance under chemical and wear conditions.

The PTFE lubricant coating minimizes friction and sticking. Thus it allows for easy installation, reduces the risk of deformation during assembly. Furthermore, the PTFE coating improves resistance to chemicals and heat, optimize the performance of rubber seals.

PTFE rubber seals and PTFE lubricant-coated rubber products combine PTFE’s chemical inertness and low friction with rubber’s flexibility, making them indispensable in applications requiring reliable, high-performance sealing solutions. From automotive to pharmaceutical industries, these products offer enhanced durability, smoother operation, and increased resistance to environmental factors, providing robust solutions to meet the high standards of modern industrial demands.
