EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber with resistance to coolant water, brake fluid, refrigerants, ozone and low temperature.
Here is the Basic Properties of EPDM:
| Property | Typical Range |
| Hardness (Shore A) | 60 – 85 |
| Tensile Strength (MPa) | 13 |
| Elongation at Break (%) | 300 |
| Compression Set (%) | 13%-15% (125°Cx72h) |
| Temperature Range | -50°C to +150°C |
| Water Absorption | Low |
| Ozone Resistance | Excellent |
| Weathering Resistance | Excellent |
| Chemical Resistance | Coolant water(50% water+50%G13), refrigerant(R134a,R1234yf) and Compressor Oil (PAG,POE) |
EPDM Applications
1. Automotive Industry
Cooling systerm: Cooling system is one of the key EPDM application.EPDM is used for gaskets and seals in these systems for SAE/NW quick connector, water pump, water valve, water hose.

Air conditioning system: EPDM is used for gaskets and seals for the air condition hose and connectors.
OBT has developed a specialized EPDM rubber with 80ShA hardness that is optimized for automotive air conditioning systems. This EPDM material exhibits good resistance to refrigerants and lubricants such as POE (Polyol Ester) oils and PAG (Polyalkylene Glycol) oils. It could replace HNBR for better cost.

Braking system:EPDM is highly compatible with glycol-based brake fluids, commonly used in automotive braking systems.
2. Other Industrial Applications
- Gaskets and Seals: In water handling systems, EPDM’s low water absorption and resistance to chemicals make it perfect for gaskets and seals used in pipelines,HVAC and refrigeration systems.
