What factors are related to the coefficient of friction of rubber surface?

The coefficient of friction on rubber surface is influenced by the following key factors:

1.Material hardness: Generally speaking, surfaces with high hardness will have a lower coefficient of friction in comparison.

2.Surface Roughness: Higher roughness increases mechanical interlocking, leading to higher friction. However, moderate roughness can sometimes help reduce sliding friction.

3.Temperature: 
As the temperature of the contact surface and enviroment increases, the friction coefficient decreases slightly. This is because when the rubber temperature rises, the rubber molecules become easier to move due to thermal motion, thereby reducing hysteresis loss and thus reducing hysteresis friction.
When the temperature is lower than the standard laboratory temperature 23℃, starting from a certain temperature, the friction coefficient will also decrease as the temperature decreases.
4.Effect of Lubricants: 
Adding lubricants can reduce the coefficient of friction. For O-rings, we could apply PTFE coating, PFPE coating in order for less assembly force.
These type of coating material has stable chemical properties and will not react chemically with rubber materials and sealing media.

The friction force on rubber surface is influenced by the following factors besides the coefficient of friction:

1.Contact Area: Although friction force is theoretically not directly proportional to contact area, a larger contact area increases actual contact points, impacting the coefficient of friction.

2.Pressure and Load: Higher pressure causes slight deformation of surface materials, increasing real contact points and potentially altering the friction coefficient.

For rubber seal products,in most of the cases, we need to achieve less friction for the purpose:
- easlier assembly for static sealing
- saving energy or wear-resistant for dynamic sealing
