Application of HNBR Rubber O-Rings in Automotive Compressor Valves

1. Temperature Resistance

Operating Range: -40°C to 150°C, with some grades capable of higher limits, ensuring that the O-rings maintain flexibility at low temperatures while resisting hardening or cracking at elevated temperatures.

2. Chemical Compatibility

The O-rings used in compressor valves are frequently exposed to various chemicals, including refrigerants and compressor oils, which can degrade less resistant materials.

Refrigerant Compatibility: HNBR O-rings are compatible with common refrigerants used in automotive AC systems, such as R134a and newer refrigerants like R1234yf.

Oil Resistance: Compressor systems often use PAG oil or POE oil, and HNBR demonstrates excellent resistance to these oils, ensuring long-lasting sealing and performance.

3. Pressure Resistance

O-rings in compressor valves must seal effectively under high pressure, ensuring no leakage occurs in the system. HNBR O-rings provide:
High Pressure Sealing: Able to maintain an effective seal in high-pressure conditions (typically 15-30 bar in automotive compressors).
Compression Set Resistance: HNBR offers low compression set, meaning it retains its shape and sealing ability over time even when subjected to continuous pressure.

4. Wear and Durability

Abrasion Resistance: HNBR has superior wear and tear resistance compared to standard NBR, which extends the service life of O-rings in harsh automotive environments.

5. Low Permeability

HNBR O-rings provide excellent gas impermeability, which is critical in maintaining system pressure and preventing refrigerant leakage in compressors.
